New earth really?

My wife and I headed down to New Earth Music Hall to see Cosmic Charlie, friends of ours. We are a middle aged couple with grey hair. My I.D. was expired and the rude guy checking I.D. cards would not let me in. He even accused me of working with the police!

I was just waiting on my new I.D. in the mail, where did this employee come from? Why does he work Cosmic Charlie shows?

Wired gets more lame each year, not sure why I keep wasting my money.

05/26/2011 - 13:56

Bunch of douche bags at new earth. We all should go point and laugh at them.

04/13/2011 - 18:12

Where's John Ivey?

04/02/2011 - 20:55

Did the drug dealer in DubConscious ever get out of jail?

04/02/2011 - 20:52

Are they ever gonna stop having the same tired people playing? Same shit, different week!

03/10/2011 - 19:59

I had to go to see what all the fuss was about, good and bad. Couldn't really enjoy the music or my drink because of the people staggering around me. They were really on "something" for sure. I threw my drink away and didn't even worry about what I paid to get in and just left. What a dreary place.

Ouch! Gonna be lot's of disappointed people at new earth the next time they show up.

All good points. Now I have no one to argue with. Cheers.

I said this before and I'll say it again.

Refusing entry for lack of valid ID: OK.

Accusing the person of working with the cops: stupid and pointless.

In this case, the door person acted like a childish brat and is just reflecting the general tone of that place. To be expected.

02/24/2011 - 11:03

If one were to get in trouble with the police, it would be a mature and wise decision to re-evaluate oneself and think about what they should and shouldn't do in order to prevent having issues with the police again, instead of being a immature and angrily pointing fingers at the police for doing their job and to senselessly accuse others of working with the police.

True, the OP should not have expected to enter New Earth Music Hall with an expired ID. No one is saying that the OP had that right. However, blaming the police for fining and jailing offenders who break the law is downright stupid.

02/23/2011 - 23:23

The new earth crack house is obeying the law?

02/23/2011 - 22:27

Can't blame the police for doing what they're supposed to do, bruh.

02/23/2011 - 14:03

That's right! No one breaks the law in Athens! ESPECIALLY at New Earth!

02/23/2011 - 12:09

That's right. The door guy decided to not break the law and allow someone in without a valid form of identification to enter. An expired license is no longer valid. Translation: It's useless.

I wish it could be as simple as "don't break the law and you won't have anything to worry about". You can't imagine how many people each night ask door staff to bend the rules for them, JUST THIS ONCE. Jesus. And when you're being overwhelmed by a rush of people at the door, it can get difficult to inspect each ID thoroughly. Simply put, if you haven't done it before - especially at a very busy bar - then you just have no idea what it's like.

To prove my point, this was in the paper today about the cops fining bars for allowing minors inside: http://www.onlineathens.com/stories/022311/cop_789645081.shtml

02/22/2011 - 21:08

You didn't miss anything. Just a bunch of pill poppin idiots wobbling around.

02/22/2011 - 19:25

What kind of idiot is paranoid of the police? Hey, if you don't want the po-po on your ass, DON'T BREAK THE LAW. Stop crying about: "BAWWW, we're serving minors alcohol and they FINED US!" Don't fucking do it. It's so fucking simple.

And Downtown Athens isn't exclusively for the HERP DERP COLLEGE BROS and goddamn pretentious hipsters. Everyone has the right to be there.

Yes, I mad.

02/22/2011 - 11:52

So what you're really saying is that you're upset that the door guy didn't make an exception for you because you "appear" to be old enough?

Bottom line is that the person you should be upset at is the police. They have created such an air of fear among door staff with their so-called "stings" that they go above and beyond to make sure they are following the letter of the law at all times, without exception. Bars can be fined, liquor licenses suspended or revoked, door staff can lose their job and personally be held accountable with a trip to jail, a criminal record and fines.

I don't blame the door guy one bit. Downtown is a young area of town, and older folks tend to think that rules don't apply to them sometimes because of their age and appearance. Not true.

Besides the police, you should also blame yourself. Like I used to say to anyone going downtown: Make sure you have your shit together! VALID and acceptable identification, several methods of payment, dressed decently, and reliable & sober transportation.

So get it together, dude. Don't blame the guy for doing his job.

02/20/2011 - 13:46

Count yourself lucky you didn't make it in! Lousy place.

02/20/2011 - 11:24

Door person shouldn't have accused you of working with police- that just escalates things- pointless and poor door behavior. Better to stick to the law rationale, which is valid and *should* be enough.

02/20/2011 - 02:44

Well, that is the law. Pretty much any place should do the same thing. Do you know what a club has to pay in fines if the police ticket them for letting you in? It's not that hard to obey the law.
