Minivan drivers - wtf?

Anyone know why the drivers of minivans feel compelled to hit the breaks at every green light they encounter? And why are they ALWAYS in front of me?

they are used to having to brake for their soccer playing kids playing in the street, it's second nature.

I'm guessing they are expecting pedestrians to waltz out in front of them. Not an unfair assumption around campus and downtown but that doesn't mean they should be hitting the brakes like that.
