Finished with The Grit
I''m not a vegan, but I have always enjoyed your food and the sights seen from your sidewalk seating. But, I am down with you Grit! Your wait staff couldn''t be any ruder. I worked in the service industry myself and I will always take good care of my waiter/waitress/bartender - but only as long as your are doing your job, and doing it without contempt for your customer. I overheard your snide comments about me and my lunch companion, and to give me such a hard time when asking for a refill is just plain unprofessional. First time in years, YEARS, I have tipped someone below 20% and quite frankly you didn''t deserve the money I did leave. Someone needs to give this place a clue, because once you run off all of your customers, you elitist hippy vegan snobs will be out of a job.

If you''re paying that much for french toast, then you probably afford to shell out a whole ''nother dollar and a half for fancy syrup. If people have a problem paying for extra things that do not come with their meal, they should either not order them or learn to cook for themselves.
It''s not nickels and dimes when the maple syrup costs more than sixty-five dollars a jug.
Because being self-sufficient and making your own way, even if it means working a s***ty restaurant job and scraping by is such a loathsome townie scene thing to do.
Boo to people who actually have jobs and don''t rely on Daddy''s money, unlike the majority of Athens'' populace.
Ask any Grit employee...the Grit is not a job...
Grit employees are self serving jack a**s. i can''t wait until that business fails.
I just remember one time at the Grit, about 9 at night, we had an OK meal and left about 20% as a tip. We though it alright and decided to be on our way. Well as we were walking away, our waiter stopped us and began to badger us as to why we left him such a s***ty tip. I''ve got friends that work at the Grit but seriously, would it really be that damaging if it just went away.
I posted the original venting about The Grit above and I''d just like to add a few more things after reading the posted comments. First of all, my main point is not how the GRIT employees dress or how they live their lives - it''s how they act and behave on the job. I could care less if you are a vegan or not. Treat your PAYING customers with the respect they deserve. If they are disrespectful, then fine. I understand the frustrations, like I mentioned, I worked in the service industry as well. My mama always said, treat those as you would like to be treated. Obviously, some of the employees have never heard of that before. My point is simple - my friends and I are done with The Grit. The people are rude, the policies are not customer friendly, and I am tired of being treated like sh*t every time I go to eat there.
Maybe they all work there for free!
That would explain a lot!
You still tipped even after being ridiculed by your waiter? That''s grounds for NO tip- like it or not, employees at the Grit are in the service industry and should behave as such. Now I have never patronized the Grit, due in large to some of the past posts on this site, but if I ever had the same experience as you, I would tip 0% and not a cent more. Your check covers the cost of food, your tip covers the cost of service. Tips should be a form of positive reinforcement- do an average job, get 15%, do a great job, get 20+%, and do a job like the one listed above, get 0%.
Can I suggest this is a management issue? First, there''s got to be turnover there, and yet since I''ve moved to Athens two years ago I''ve heard about the Grit waitstaff. It doesn''t sound like the same guy over and over, but like the staff in general acts like this. Working customer service can suck, so it''s no surprise that waitstaff will cop an attitude from time to time (especially if they still get a tip). But that''s when a manager should step in and work with the person to correct the behavior or get rid of the person. Clearly this isn''t happening at the Grit, and it won''t until all the people on here who complain about it actually do stop going.
I''ve never had a BAD experience there, but didn''t have a particularly good one either, so I''ve never been back.
i think the food is sub par and the services staff is rude.
And it''s a bit over priced!
Why i have not been back there in a long time.
My order-up tofurkey sandwich grows cold in the kitchen while neander-waitrons shuffle about, struggling in their prattle about Sticking It to the Man, Mojo Showboating, Testimonies of the Dust and Other Beguilements...
