crosswalks

Dear Athens,
You have stopped your car ON the crosswalk. You have already run the light, why don''t you just move on through. I am sick of having to walk into oncoming traffic because I have to go around your car stopped in the middle of the crosswalk! It is unsafe for the thousands of pedestrians in Athens AND you are holding up busses that can''t make the turn because you are so far in front of the stop bar. Learn to drive.
Sincerely,
Walker-Biker-BusRider-Driver
PS- the left lane is the passing lane, not the talk on your phone and drive 10 under the speed limit lane, even on 316!

No one goes the posted speed limit, and lots of folks are in such a manic hurry they don''t want to let anyone over to make a left turn...I have to make a left off that road every morning, and with signal on, drivers going way to fast have almost hit me (many of them were on the phone).

While your point is somewhat valid (above), there are signs posted on 316 indicating that slower traffic should keep right. If drivers would obey this rule (and common courtesy) then those wishing to make a left turn would have ample space to merge left before making their turn. Slow traffic is supposed to keep right on any road with more than 2 lanes. Also, we all have seen that most of the people who are in the left lane on 316 driving well under the posted speed limit, are on their phones and will not be exiting the road until it ends on 85.

One of the things about 316 folks forget is its not an interstate. When you have to turn left off the highway onto one of these country roads you have to get in the left lane, and possibly slow down a bit (if you are hunting an unfamiliar road). People get furious about anything that gets in the way of going 90 mph on 316...lots of horrible wrecks happen.

Amen to those who drive under the speed limit on 316. I mean seriously, why areyou going 55 when the speed limit is 65??!! and you''re doing it in both lanes so i can''t pass you. thanks, thanks a lot.

haven''t you heard? All the Most Important People In The World live here and drive here.

Your silly pedestrianism cannot be allowed to inconvenience them. Only the little people walk.

Sometimes I want to bash the hood of the car in the crosswalk. It''s not like they thought they were going to make the light or be able to make that left turn. The light is red well before they even reach the intersection and they go past the line anyway.

I stopped to watch this one guy at the Arch the other day: he kept inching foward through the crosswalk until he was almost completely past the light. It''s like he thought he could get away with running the red as long as he did it very slowly.
