Crosswalk

Fri, 03/07/2008 - 14:59

I am so annoyed at people who take their time walking through the crosswalks. If a car stopped so that you could cross the street, you should be courteous enough to pick up the pace so they can get on with their day.

4-23, you are an idiot... did you read the post? or just scan and pick out what you wanted to comment on? i guess we should all take the attitude of, "let's floor it into pedestrians and splatter their guts all over my car because they are not in a crosswalk and do not have the right of way."

pedestrians DO have the right of way when it comes between a car and a person... however, it isn't lawful for someone to jaywalk...

sorry it wasn't spelled out for you...

I've actually never seen drivers on campus slow down for anything at all. Fucktards multiplied by 4,000 pounds!

I've actually seen a couple of jackasses slow down while they're walking in the crosswalk. Fucktards.

@1st on 3/17: There's no reason to think the OP is lazy or that they drive everywhere.

In fact, if the OP were to take the bus instead of driving this would probably irritate them more, not less since they are more likely to stop for jaywalkers than other drivers.

Did anyone understand the comment from 3/24?

I don't think pedestrians should have to run but they should walk like they intend to actually get across the street sometime this decade. I was sitting at the bus stop at the Main Library the other day and I saw a couple of people actually come to a complete stop in the crosswalk. I don't mean they stopped to see if an oncoming car would wait for them to cross either. They were already in the path of oncoming traffic when they decided to stop and discuss which side of the street they needed to be on.

While we're on the subject, too many pedestrians don't use the buttons to get the light at intersections. You don't have the right of way until you get the walk signal. Traffic doesn't have to stop for you just because you feel like jaywalking. Press the damn button. Hell, at some intersections pressing the button actually turns all the lights red.

why's everybody in such a hurry anyway?

03/23/2008 - 17:33

First of all, even if it is lawful to stop for pedestrians when it is their TURN, some people stop on a green light out of politeness. You don't have to come to a screeching halt when the light turns because someone stepped in the street. When people stop out of politeness for me- as a pedestrian- I think it polite to hurry the f*** up. When I stop for people- as a driver- I expect people to hurry the f*** up. Streets may have been for walking 100 years ago- but NOW that's completely irrelevant to this particular issue.

To the thief, everyone steals.

To the lazy a** UGA student, everyone uses Wikipedia. ;-)

Though it may be totally outside the realm of your personal experience, there really are some of us who have actually studied the history of civilization using real books. (If you aren't sure what a book is, look it up on Wikipedia.)

you know...whenever you're driving you probably think pedestrians suck...but when a pedestrian you probably think cars suck...so if you do both you can reach a happy understanding of each so maybe you should get off your lazy a** and walk a bit more. it's better for the environment anyway

Wow! Your Wikipaedia-based knowledge is really impressive. The topic is about lazy f***ers in the crosswalk. You've certainly exposed yourself as one. GET YOUR LAZY ASS ACROSS THE STREET AND OUT OF THE CROSSWALK!

You are welcome. But, you have to know a little world history to go along with it. Roman roads were paved with cobblestones and other flat stones to avoid the mud for the soldiers and facilitate horses pulling wagons.

Streets in the USA were paved for the same reason. Then, along came bicycles and people traveling in horse-drawn buggies so they were made a bit smoother where possible.

Passenger cars have only been around for about 100 years so, in the world view, that's a very brief time - barely a fad when compared to human history.

Of course, if you are a 20-something UGA student, there was no history until you got here because the world revolves around your sorry ass! At least, that's what your parents taught you.

you are in a car

you're sitting down - probably in comfort

you've got at least a 6-pseaker stereo, heat, a/c, a roof

get a grip! streets are not only for cars! in fact, streets were built for pedestrians first and then cars were added later

and, yes, it is the law that cars must stop for pedestrians so, the other post is correct - you're not doing somebody a favor and they don't owe you one.
