ABH
I have GOT to stop reading the comment on the online Athens Banner Herald. It's like a train wreck; so hard not to look. But the commenters are complete morons for the most part. It's scary knowing these people live amongst us.
Horrible Hallway Smell
I fairly certain I don't even want to know what happened across the hall but the funk is all powerful and has lasted for days.
CVS
Why is it that no matter which CVS I go to they always tell you to decline getting counseled on your medication? Not, "Do you need to be counseled on this?", not, "Sign here for counseling or sign here if you don't need it", just "Sign here".
It doesn't matter if it's a new medication with "NEW MEDICATION, COUNSEL PATIENT" in big letters on the paperwork.
What do pharmacists at CVS have against people knowing what to avoid or what to start doing now that you're on a medication? Do they honestly think it's better for people to find out after something bad has happened that they were supposed to avoid high potassium foods or Asprin or whatever?
Doctors never know about all the interactions and stuff you have to look out for. They may know of the most common side effects, but that's it. That's why we need pharmacists. They are the ones who know the details about these drugs. The ones at CVS need to at least offer counseling.
Downtown Post Office Hours SUCK
8:30 - 4:30 M-F
5:00 AM - 11:00 AM Sat; closed Sunday
These hours make it really inconvenient for a working person to check their damn post office box. There's no way I can check mail during the week, unless I want to either be late for work or leave work early- leaving Saturday morning the only time for me. Great, now on my little time off from work, I have to kill my relaxing Saturday morning to go to the post office. If you're a minute late on Saturday morning the doors are locked tight.
I used to love the convenience of the post office, but they've managed to ruin it.
Can't they at least stay open AFTER work hours during the week- if only on Friday?!?! What about a little longer hours on Saturday? Some more human hours like 9a.m. til 2 p.m. This all really pisses me off.
Hubris
There is no person more cocky than one who has just gotten their degree.
That, or a first-year law student.
Native Athenian away for 8 yrs. Any locals left?
I moved to Athens in 1970 at 5 yrs old when my dad got a professor position in the history dept. I've seen Athens go through lots of changes since I've left in 2002, good and bad. I've been lurking thru various posts here lately. Seems they reflect a continuation of what I've witnessed during my last few years there. I live in San Angelo, TX now. Where I live is more or less like Athens was in the late 1970s before it reached critical mass, minus the trees. I remember the days where people more or less respected each other's pace of life and lifestyle. It appears the roads and driving habits are still the same (though that never was a major peeve of mine). Any feedback from "natives" would be appreciated. BTW, is the Manhattan Cafe still around?
The Hotel Indigo
Kudos to Indigo for being such a green friendly hotel, but the elitist attitude needs to take a hike. Who do you think you are?
Cable Guys
Just a heads up cable repair guys. Next time you come to my duplex on behalf of my neighbor, you might want to knock on my door and let me know you will be skulking in my bushes in the dark. That way my wife won't be surprised in a towel and I won't nearly shoot you.
New Earth Music Hall selling over priced glasses of soda and ice
A vodka tonic is part tonic, a few rocks of ice, a lime, and vodka. A vodka tonic is NOT a cup full of ice, 95% tonic, and a splash of vodka. If this is how you are going to weather the economic times, by stiffing your customers on their drink orders, then consider me gone. If I wanted a cup of soda water and ice, I'd hit the closest fast food joint where it's likely free with unlimited refills. If I'm going to pay $5.00, then I want some damn vodka in my drink. It's almost forgivable once, but twice? Come on.
And to the bartender who served me - when I politely asked you if you thought there was enough vodka in the drink, remember that I am the customer. I was polite and far from rude, but your quick comment of "deal with it," was unacceptable.
My girls and I are done with New Earth. There are far better places downtown to spend our time and money.
