Supply and Demand?

The Classic City has no shortage of talentless DJ's.

11/15/2010 - 19:52

Please DJ's- Keep pressing buttons to play our (musicians) music. You guys are about as signifigant as a waitress bringing me a chef's meal. Thank god that I have an automatic dj on my phone, laptop, Ipod, alarm clock, etc.

If you were truly talented than you would just make your own music.

Bitches......

08/29/2010 - 15:01

You tired djs are nothing but tired losers!

07/15/2010 - 21:17

Come on people! Don't be so hard on the poor old dj. I'm sure it is a constant struggle trying to prove you are better than the 100 dj's in Athens that do the same thing.

07/15/2010 - 21:11

Uh huh sure, still getting calls. You are too funny. Anyone with a brain knows your are so full of crap. You were forced to quit because you sucked/suck, djing and remixing. Obviously no one wanted to hear your crap one way or another. Plain as day. But it has been enjoyable watching you argue why you don't suck!

07/15/2010 - 20:59

Who is talking about who? I am so confused. Is this some kind of inside joke I am supposed to get but am not getting? The attention getter, for me, is the length of the thread. Kinda like trying to count the pieces of corn in an astonishingly long piece of shite.

07/15/2010 - 19:16

this is my last comment on this subject.... call it what you want. but one thing that is kinda neat is that I'm still getting calls to play music 22 years after I started playing. Yeah, it was 8-10 years ago that I did a lot of traveling djing. That was also when I was still putting out records and doing a lot of remix work. I lost interest in the making music for quite a while so obviously, I stopped playing out.

I've never said I was 'better' than other dj's, just dissappointed that many of them just scratch (pun) the surface when it comes to djing.

This got blown way out of proportion and I'm sure there will be comments on my comment here. It's been interesting because many of you know who I am but yet, you get to put comments on here anonymously.

To the guy who's band is touring all over, and if he's telling the truth..... seriously, congratulations. enjoy it and remember that not too many people are able to make a decent living in the music business. Make sure the places you play take your contracts seriously and adhere to them. You'll thank yourself in the long run.
and if your lucky, people will be calling you in 20 years to come play for them....

07/15/2010 - 18:40

Haha, sure sure. Fallen, moved on. Call it what you will.

07/15/2010 - 15:54

thats great that your band is getting out on the road. keep up the good work.
I was just answering the question and I haven't 'fallen', I've just moved on to other
things.

07/15/2010 - 11:12

The places my band still plays. Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, North and South Carolina, Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, Louisiana, Texas, Colorado, California, British Columbia, Oklahoma, Alabama.

07/14/2010 - 13:29

Look at all these tired dj's still arguing why they rule! Y'all some funny people up in here.

07/14/2010 - 11:38

"places i've played: florida, georgia, tennessee, north and south carolina, kentucky, indiana, ohio, louisiana, texas, colorado, california, british columbia, oklahoma, alabama. and yes, I was paid to play and yes they paid for the travel."

How the so called mighty haven fallen! LOL

07/14/2010 - 11:36

Yes we know you played out of state some super god dj. So did EVERYONE decades ago! Someone mentioned there are some dj's in Athens that get paid to play around the country. Get paid, meaning getting paid or was that what he meant, decades ago?

07/14/2010 - 08:58

places i've played: florida, georgia, tennessee, north and south carolina, kentucky, indiana, ohio, louisiana, texas, colorado, california, british columbia, oklahoma, alabama. and yes, I was paid to play and yes they paid for the travel.

07/13/2010 - 12:28

I don't want to be some idiot dj. What a joke. And please, do tell. What dj's in Athens play around the country?

07/13/2010 - 09:19

We truly do have some talented DJ's here in Athens. A few of these get paid to play around the country. YOU don't have to like them. But they're not ALL hacks.

07/13/2010 - 07:48

There are severl open DJ nights around town.... put your music where your mouth is, if you think you're better than what's out there...

07/13/2010 - 07:43

None. Leave the town maybe state if you want to hear a good dj.

07/13/2010 - 03:36

epic

07/13/2010 - 00:05

No one has posted which DJs in Athens - DON'T SUCK... There must be a few that do their job well?

07/12/2010 - 19:25

If you had some of the money like some of us have, maybe you can join the argument broke losers!

07/12/2010 - 19:22

I know. Arguing over who is better. Seems there are more serious problems to be arguing about.

07/12/2010 - 17:36

I wish I had y'alls problems...

07/12/2010 - 12:09

The Melting Point - July 16

07/12/2010 - 11:04

Flicker - July 21

07/09/2010 - 23:08

Making a list. Checking it twice. Going to be sure to spread this topic around. Talentless dj's vs sh*tty bands in Athens...

07/09/2010 - 23:03

GO AHEAD and pass it along. Do you think anyone GIVE A SHIT? A REAL DJ can use a sample from one of your SHITTY RECORDS and MOVE A CROWD. You don't GET IT and you have NO RESPECT for A DJ. That is YOUR LOSS. We PROVIDE ENTERTAINMENT. You BORE the THREE people that come to your STUPID SHOW.

07/09/2010 - 22:50

I'm glad some of the DJ's are posting on here. I can't wait to pass this along to some of my band members and friends.

07/09/2010 - 22:48

You kids just don't get what being a REAL DJ is AT ALL. Sorry but YOU SUCK and you JUST DON'T GET IT. REAL DJS are GODS. I feel sorry for you KIDS with LAPTOPS. You don't know ANYTHING, so spend your money in Athens and get THE HELL ON. The REAL PEOPLE will be here LONG after you LEAVE town. Your OPINIONS are WORTHLESS. I am TIRED of watching TRUE DJS getting hated on by IGNORANT people. FUCK your STUPID little rock bands. And FUCK all you WANNABE DJS who don't know how to KEEP IT REAL! Retro RULES and you laptop BITCHES SUCK!!!!!!

07/09/2010 - 22:41

The kids in town pay for your sh**ty job and bar! Bow down losers!

07/09/2010 - 22:39

Bunch of self promotion dj's in Athens. You are your only fan. People come out for the drinks not to hear your music you are acting stupid to in the dj booth.

07/09/2010 - 22:14

It's pretty clear to me that the kids in town have no idea what is involved in being a real and true DJ. Granted, they also have no idea of what a vinyl is. The above diatribe sounds like folks who don't get to hear their requests, and, thus, bitch and complain. There's more to dj'ing than just playing requests.

07/09/2010 - 19:14

Ummm yeah, thousands of people showed up during Athfest for "dj's". So much for sh**ty bands and musicians huh?

07/09/2010 - 19:06

I'm so sure a few dj gigs have paid for everything. So sure. But I don't care about that as much as you do. DJ's suck, push play and shut up bitches!

07/09/2010 - 18:43

apparently some people don't like the fact that someone from Athens had some success in the music business that didn't play rock/indie rock.... nice open mind they have. I knew 43 back in the day and knew what dj's were getting paid to play some events in the region and there were dj's making good money for a nights work.

07/09/2010 - 17:15

Wow, what an exaggeration. And it was Athfest, there were people everywhere dummy. Don't have to be a genius to figure that out.

07/09/2010 - 17:08

wow. Ya know I seem to remember like 500 people showing up for a bunch of talentless djs a couple weeks ago..

07/09/2010 - 13:50

I'm feeling the responses. Here we've got this dj pissing on other djs because they don't mix like he mixes, telling those who don't disagree with him that they "don't have any idea", then linking to a list of releases, wanting us to believe they've funded a string of bar ventures. A genuine American story of the successful, self-made man. Well damn, what a load of horse-shit. It's clear the responders don't by into this line either. The icing on this cow-shit cake is a further jab at bands in town- calling them "shitty bands." And he tops it off with a dingle-berry, telling us to "stay off the dancefloor." No problem there! I'll be enjoying the "shitty bands" and "singer-songwriters." Sincerely- some guy in a band.

07/09/2010 - 13:10

I can't wait to graduate so I can get out of this town. So until that happens my best advice is to avoid the dj bars, because yes they mostly suck. I can hear hip hop, rock, country and 80's on the radio. No need to have a dj pretty much play the radio for me.

With that said, looking forward going to the 40 Watt tonight! Rock on!

07/09/2010 - 13:02

ANYWAY, Athens has a ton of talentless dj's. You can argue all you want about who is and who isn't talentless. I think you all suck. Get over it.

07/09/2010 - 12:56

What a load of crap from 43. Thanks for the crap list. I'm sure he has made lot's and lot's of money off that crap. Seems that his awesomeness has paid off, reduced to his family buying a bar so he can have a gig and play 80's. LMFAO

07/09/2010 - 11:28

Seems like the ones hating the hardest have the least idea of what a "good DJ" is supposed to do: make people dance, have a good time, spend money at the bar, and come back for more. If you don't know how to do that, go check out the hundreds of shitty "bands" and "singer-songwriters" that Athens has an endless supply of and stay off the dancefloor.

PS: For those of you that doubt Athens' own DJ 43's accomplishments, here's a partial list of production credits spanning about a decade: http://www.discogs.com/artist/DJ+43

Then again, none of that means anything to you since you're probably the drunk moron at the dance club trying to request 'Alejandro' by Lady Gaga for the 10th time in one night.

07/08/2010 - 20:51

We don't care if you have turntables and all that other junk. Just play the songs we want to hear while we are out drinking and trying to have a good time. Idiot dj's.

07/08/2010 - 20:44

Turntables, laptops, whatever. You push play just like all the other wannabes.

07/08/2010 - 20:42

All you lame so called dj's in Athens need to get a life and shut up. Keep on sucking and playing your shitty music!

You suck but you think you rock. And self promotion that you do is so hilarious! If anything, thanks for the laughs!

07/08/2010 - 20:31

My point is: don't sit up there on your throne and act like because you manually mix that you're so much better than some kid with a laptop. Cause kid with a laptop is gonna make you look like an ass. BTW, I didn't mention "dj" at all. I just used a world champion turntablist to exaggerate the point. Boy, you are pickled in the head.

07/08/2010 - 20:28

and now we see why this person has no respect of other types of djing

07/08/2010 - 20:24

ahh, now we see what you classify as a 'dj' ......figures.......

07/08/2010 - 19:56

If you're gonna take the attitude that you spin manually and are therefore "better", fine. But please don't use your ability to hold two records together as a reason why other djs are not as good as you think you *think* you are.If you're gonna sit in that corner, then you should be able to back that shit up with at least a fraction of the skills like the guy in this video has. Otherwise, get back to being the boob in the bar playing what they want.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0iZdggruFpY

07/08/2010 - 15:12

DJ's = Tired has-beens.

07/08/2010 - 15:04

And 8-track players uh I mean turntables.

07/08/2010 - 15:03

My ipod touch is better than all your laptops! Take that!

07/08/2010 - 14:06

oh yeah, well my turntables are better than yours so there lmao

07/08/2010 - 14:03

What I've learned form this thread:1. djs take themselves too srsly2. djs respond to criticism by saying 'you don't know what you're talkin' about'3.djs think beat matching equates to "good dj"4. im rly ovr djs5. the 1 who smelt it dealt it

07/08/2010 - 13:47

HAHAHA, funded through his music production and djin all over the country. What a laugh. Oh I will be laughing for years to come. You must be Tiesto! HAHAHA

07/08/2010 - 13:31

so just out of curiosity, who do you consider 'good dj's'?

07/08/2010 - 12:53

I guess I get to chime in now... I'm the 'rich guy whose family lines my pockets' LOL My family has nothing to do with my venture in my bar. That money was my own, earned from music production, dj-ing all over the country in the late 90's and early 2000's and some investments.
As far as having a place to play every weekend, yeah, you're damn right I do. I enjoy it and have for quite a while. If you would like to take a look in the dj booth at my bar, you'll find two turntables, crates of records (vinyl) a dj mixer, controller and a computer running serato. For those in the dark, serato is a program that enables the dj to play mp3's and wav files controlled by either vinyl encoded records or encoded cd's. THE DJ STILL HAS TO MIX THE TUNES!!!!! The program many folks look down upon r dj-ing is ableton live which beat matches for you (as does another program called Torque). The bad thing is that there are so many "dj's" out there that use ableton and are unaware of how to even mix records. In this case, yes, a few apples ruin the bunch.
It's so easy to knock on things when you really don't have any idea what the reality of it all is.

07/08/2010 - 12:03

DJ's are tired things of the past. Get over yourselves.

07/08/2010 - 11:52

I'm just reading this. And I have to agree, thanks for listing some of the suck a$$ dj's for us. Rx, d:rc, 43 etc... They all use laptops just like everyone else. Mix by ear, yeah right. And yes, not only do they suck as dj's, their music sucks as well. I've never heard or seen such a bunch of pathetic wannabe dj's in my entire life. First time for everything. Thank you Athens!

07/08/2010 - 11:28

I know of only 1 person who has been djing in this town "for over 20 years now." Rich family lines his pockets to the point he was able to buy his own bar; now has a guaranteed place to play dj. Impressive.

07/08/2010 - 09:32

You know what they say - those who can't do bitch and complain.

07/08/2010 - 08:28

I enjoy the different styles they play, but think those djs are boring and unimaginative in how they present the music . Seen much better, so I think they're a joke, they suck etc. Who cares.

07/08/2010 - 08:19

yeah, you can't knock good dj's just because you don't like their music. kinda like saying jay-z sucks because you don't like rap music...

07/08/2010 - 08:03

they don't suck. you probably just don't like the music they play. there's a BIG difference.

07/07/2010 - 22:40

yeah and all those djs you mention, suck.

07/07/2010 - 12:51

Yeah, i've been a tad dismayed over the last couple of years the number of 'djs' that haven't taken the time to learn how to mix records. I've been djing in this town for over 20 years now and still mix by ear versus having a software program do it for me. there are a couple of others too... dj rx, d:rc, variant, dj 43. sad though that all the newcomers don't learn the art of djing and are more interested in just being a 'dj'.

07/06/2010 - 13:21

You should check new earth out sometime if you want to hear talentless dj's.

07/06/2010 - 13:19

If you can call most of those losers DJ's. Bunch of talentless wannabes.
