Quick Tip

Buying a drink for someone you haven't even met yet is about the worst move you can possibly make: even if you aren't one, it makes you seem like a creep.
Example:
"I got you this drink: what's your name?"
Translation:
"I'd like to get you drunk as soon as possible and am not interested in getting to know you."

One exception: if the drink is given to a person in uniform as a token of appreciation. Doubt that happens around here though.

In both cases, have the bartender/wait staff deliver it. Nobody wants an open drink you carried around and drugged, creep.

Having the bartender or staff deliver it doesn't help. It still might have been spiked. I'd never take an open drink if I didn't get to see it prepared. Even if most guys aren't trying to get you drunk a lot of them do think that getting you a drink means that you're obligated to talk to them. "Hey, I did this thing for you even though you didn't ask me to so now you HAVE to talk to me."

Doesn't bother me. I get a free drink and get to talk to a cute guy. What more do I want on my night out.
