Don't Come After Closing... or Prepare to Receive Poor Service

Come on people, it is childish to to try to get service after a store is closed. If there are closing announcements or obvious signs that a store is about to close, I do the respectful thing and LEAVE. The people working at the store are not robots, they have lives at home and other things to do. I could understand if you are maybe 5 or so minutes late or have some kind of emergency, but half an hour late is ridiculous. Furthermore, don't send some whiny e-mail complaining about the fact that you did not receive any service even though it would have 'only taken a minute'. Anytime we help one extremely late customer, inevitably several other people congregate and demand service, just like the other person. Who could blame them? This has happened more than once, always ending in people literally shouting obscenities at us. The fact is, we had been closed for over half an hour. After we have spent about 10.5 hours at work and our multiple "closed" signs are clearly posted, why must people always ask us for something? Sometimes we have to close to the public so we can get something done such like cleaning and preparing for the next day. Believe me, I would much rather get out of there so people don't come and tap on the window and get all upset. We were open to the public for 10 hours and we would have opened again in about 12 hours... if you can't get there in that window of time, please go somewhere else. You could have gotten your item at a different store. Although you said that you had previous retail experience and would have gladly stayed open, I find that hard to believe... it seems that you are a little dense and have no experience living in the real world. You did not listen to our explanation of how we were not able to simply hand you what you wanted, there was more to it than that AND a line would form causing us to stay even later... you just walked off in a huff! Before e-mailing some giant complaint, you did not even bother to listen to our explanation? Ridiculous and childish!

As far as having some kind of emergency, I'd argue that it's nearly impossible to have an emergency that would require a retail store to let you in after hours.

If we're honest with ourselves we all know that nothing only takes a minute even if we are sincere in our effort to be as brief as possible. Oops, they're out of the one thing and now you need to figure out what other thing you can use instead. Oops, you don't know the layout of the store so you can't find it. You ask if there's any in the back, it won't ring up, you forgot your wallet, your card won't scan, it's too big to fit in your car, etc.

I also doubt this person had previous retail experience; if anything they'd have known better than to try to argue that they would have broken corporate policy.

The emergency probably was to rob the store!

the VERY worst are the folks who make it clear that they are aware of closing time and have the nerve to apologize for making everyone stay late. Seriously? Don't apologize if you don't give a shit: own it and act like the jackass that you are!
