New Earth Music Hall. What a waste of my time and money.

I feel ripped-off. Having paid $40 for a weekend pass to New Earth, rented a room, and driven from out of town- I have come to realize how I was scammed by a sales pitch! To read the New Earth Facebook and Blog, you would think this place is the hottest ticket in town. What a sucker I was; I feel like I drank a gallon of snake oil.

The bottom line is I was stupid to buy a $40 pass, the whole weekend of shows was dull, and I felt like a fool for ruining my weekend and lightening my wallet for this shit! I know the rain was partly to blame, but still this was the lamest, dullest, most over-priced load of BS.

Here's just a few of the slogans I read from the New Earth Hype Machine that tricked me into thinking this place was something I wanted to see:

    "coming-of-age"
    "multi-dimensional shows"
"You will not see better music for this price ever again"
    "NEMH Family"
"going to be an epic show"
"This will be a monumental Earth Day Celebration"
    "AMAZING week of music!"
    "One Love"
    "Legendary"
"epic and nothing less. Be there, seriously."
"Together we can continue to build this amazing local community..."
    "LOCAL HEROS DUBCONSCIOUS"
"we are one of the first music venues to also host a music blog."
"This is a dynamic concept and it is intended to benefit the local and global community."

Athens! WTF?!?!?!?! Arrrrrrrrrgh!!!!

Yup I was less than thrilled.

Reading some of the things new earth said is very annoying. The way they advertise is so annoying. It's such nonsense. They try to act like they are doing Athens and the world a favor and if you don't come out to their lame shows you are so missing the show of a lifetime. It's like that for every show with them.

I will admit I was fooled into buying the pass early based on all the hype from them. Believe me, I will never do it again.

04/26/2010 - 07:13

Umm yeah, it sure was an epic & monumental let down. At least they got epic and monumental right.

04/26/2010 - 15:08

The Athens music scene is suffering since the loss of the Theatre and this place is only hurting things. It could be a good venue, but whoever is in charge is doing a horrible job. Time for new management and booking STAT if that place is going to survive.

04/26/2010 - 16:50

I don't know if anything can help this tragic mess at this point.

04/26/2010 - 17:44

While I do find it somewhat hard to defend NEMH, because quite frankly they have lots of room for improvement, I must say that you don't really have a lot of room for ranting. You say you bought your ticket based on "hype and a sales pitch." Did you not see the lineup of bands before your purchase? Technically, New Earth delivered on what they said they would. As far as I know all the bands set to play showed up and played. Of course, as you stated the outdoor stage was a bust due to rain, but they moved everything inside...and it all seemed to go relatively smooth. Hopefully you learned your lesson, don't buy a product based on hype.

04/26/2010 - 17:58

No worries, I won't fall victim to their hype ever. I feel sorry for those of you who did.

LOL wow! Pretty good hype I must say. Sadly if you were there like I was, you will find the hype pretty funny.

04/26/2010 - 18:07

"While I do find it somewhat hard to defend NEMH, because quite frankly they have lots of room for improvement"

OK you can improve any day now. Really.

04/27/2010 - 11:24

"Legendary"
"epic and... blah blah...

Pretty bad hype, actually. Seriously, when a business talks to you like they think you're eight year old, just don't patronize them.

04/27/2010 - 14:08

I agree, pretty bad hype. Too bad some of you suckers fell for the legendary epic monumental hype. Sorry, don't mean that as in insult.

05/07/2010 - 13:40

"LOCAL HEROS DUBCONSCIOUS"

Way to go Athens. You have pot smoking hippies as your local heros!

05/21/2010 - 12:40

I believe AthFest is $15 and you get to see all kinds of different bands in different venues. Plus the free stuff at the outdoor stages!

New Earth was charging $40 for all those crap djs and bands? Lame a$$ losers!

06/07/2010 - 10:56

I heard they are a lesbian bar or a drag king bar. Something like that.

06/10/2010 - 12:33

Yep, they're using those kings or whatever they are to help them through the summer. Lacking creative ideas, apparently.

06/12/2010 - 13:57

FYI, they have been lacking creative ideas way before summer!
