Tall people...

First off: I'm not asking for chivalrous behavior from men toward women, here.
I'm asking for charity from the very tall to those of us who are below average height.
PLEASE,
If you see me on a crowded bus praying under my breath that I'll remain upright throughout the tumultuous ride because I can baarrrrrely reach a bar to steady myself and you're aware that you could easily reach it, consider at least making a sympathetic face, if not offering me your seat.
It's bad enough that you people crowd me out at shows and elbow me in the face at dance parties--you're presumably sober on the bus and that kind of tomfoolery is no longer acceptable in daylight.

With that being said, tall guys at Hawt!

Isn't this more a whine because you couldn't get a seat on the bus. There is more to hang onto than the bar hanging from the roof.

Yes there's more than just the overhead bar but if you're at the front of The Bus you don't have the backs of the seats to hold onto either and it's not like people will let you hang onto them. If the bus is crowded it can be extremely hard to get to a spot where there is something to hang onto. At least let them get to a spot where there is a hand hold available.

The OP is right. Fortunately, I can reach the bars at the top of the bus but it is frequently difficult to find the vertical bars that everyone is tall enough to hold on to. It is usually pretty awkward to hold onto the back of a seat or something without someone getting accidentally bashed with a backpack or something. It is probably too embarrassing to announce to the bus, "Hey! I cannot find anything to hold on to!" I also feel like passengers just don't notice the people who are having a hard time finding something to hold on to. I actually did see a really tall guy give his seat up to a girl who was not tall enough to hold on. That was extremely nice. Definitely, if I were observant enough to notice someone having a hard time, I would give up my seat to them.

Yeah, hopefully we can quit waving our ginormous forkendugans around in everyone's face too so all you short people can quit being envious, maniacal and crazy. If you're too little to reach the sissy~bar you need to petition the authories to install extra-long wuss extensions for all you lilliputions on the bus. Do you want US to lose our balance and fall on top of you?? Quitcher bitchin' you guys get to be horse jockeys and work in the circus and stuff; you can't have all the advantages....!

i applaud you for the invention of the word "forkendugans." actually, your whole comment was very funny. even if you were calling me out :)

It's a stretch to say that people "below average height" can barely reach a bar. I'm below average height and I can reach the overhead bars quite comfortably. At least from my observations (and I almost never ride ATS so I can't speak for what goes on there) some people--usually women--who are tall enough to reach the bar (let's say about 5' 3" and up but I'm sure some shorter people can reach it too) prefer to crowd around the vertical bars. Again this is just observation, I don't really give a **** so much except that the buses could be filled much more effectively if people didn't do this sort of crowding.

you never see tall people asking short people to get low stuff... but you are always asking us to get stuff up high.
from now on, instead of bending over, i am going to go," hey, that's really down low... could you get that for me?"

05/07/2010 - 14:14

if a tall person gave up their seat for me on the bus, then dropped something, I would totally pick it up!

05/12/2010 - 13:27

I've seen several people too short to reach the bar, so no, it is not a 'stretch' to say that there are people who can't use it.

05/24/2010 - 02:38

but it is a stretch. "some people" does not mean "most people that are below average height". the actual proportion is maybe 10% or less.
