Just some stuff I've experienced while in Athens
I love my little dog. Sadly, the only pet store near where I live is Pet Supplies Plus, and to be honest, my dog hates it there. Last time we went there, she peed on the floor and expressed extreme displeasure while in that store. Don't know what it is that bothers her, the people who work there, or the crazy nuts in the hospital next door. Honestly though, the employees there don't seem very enthusiastic animal lovers anyways, only students reluctant to come to work to get a pay check. Whatever it may be, I think it's an energy my dog doesn't like, and I won't be going there again. I'm not trying to bash them or something, well... maybe a little. It's nice to know the employees there are offer to clean up after your animals' accidents, but if you're an owner who would let someone else clean up after your pets' messes, you probably shouldn't have a pet... just saying. But that's just my experience though. They are close to Kinnicun's though... :P, I like kinnicun's.
However, I discovered a store that's past the Sam's Club, Mary's Tack and Feed, and I've got to say she (the dog) loves it! Nice people ( better looking people) and definitely higher quality service. I get her nails cut there and everything; $20 lifetime cuts, it pays for itself. Most of all, I think the people who work there probably get paid more and have more experience with animals. My dog always gets treats when she goes. She's always excited to see the people there, and she's always pulling me inside the store. She has probably associated the smells with treats and happiness or something stupid like that. I just wanted to let the people of Athens know that they're doing a great job. I'm definitely a repeat customer. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who owns a pet. I just think that my dollar is better spent there and I just feel that its good karma to get the word out.
The Pet Smart on 316 ain't too bad either.
In retail, you always hear about the bad s**t that happens, and rarely do you hear about the good stuff people do.
I haven't been to the pet store near the Home Depot in a while, but from what I remember it was dark and small. That dentist office in that area is a douchebag too. The quick lube on Atlanta Hwy, with the car wash f**ked up my fiance's car once. The idiots there... eh, well, they're idiots; in the lube, not the wash.
You know, this was originally about my dog and pet stores I've been to, but it's gone on a tangent hasn't it... I'll shut up now.

Pets are neat.
Unless the dog/pet is assisting the disabled, bringing it inside of a store is *completely* inappropriate. Same goes for tying it to the café fence of a tavern.
Some pet stores allow and encourage their customers to bring their pets inside.
Any other kind of store though and I agree that it's totally wrong. I saw a guy bring a puppy into Jo-Ann's once. Seriously? I don't think people will want to buy fabric or yarn that has dog hair on it dude.
If the Tack and Feed place clips the dog's nails, does it not seem kind of necessary for the dog to go inside the store? Also, several pet stores provide pet grooming services... animals go inside, they do not hose them off in the parking lot. Bringing a dog inside a restaurant is probably not a good idea unless it is a service animal.
