Downtown Post Office Hours SUCK
8:30 - 4:30 M-F
5:00 AM - 11:00 AM Sat; closed Sunday
These hours make it really inconvenient for a working person to check their da*n post office box. There's no way I can check mail during the week, unless I want to either be late for work or leave work early- leaving Saturday morning the only time for me. Great, now on my little time off from work, I have to kill my relaxing Saturday morning to go to the post office. If you're a minute late on Saturday morning the doors are locked tight.
I used to love the convenience of the post office, but they've managed to ruin it.
Can't they at least stay open AFTER work hours during the week- if only on Friday?!?! What about a little longer hours on Saturday? Some more human hours like 9a.m. til 2 p.m. This all really pisses me off.

They don't keep their doors unlocked for PO boxes? That's retarded. If I were you, I'd use the one on on Alps.
Those are Post Office hours. The employees at the downtown Post Office are extremely friendly and helpful to everyone, while still managing to get through the line very quickly. The other day I went there to mail 2 packages and buy stamps and I still had time to run my car through the wash and vacuum it at that place on Broad during my lunch hour. I'd tried to take the packages to the Alps office the day before and waited in line until I had to leave to get back to work.
Kudos to the dntn Post Office employees. They make a chore enjoyable.
Nobody is saying these employees there weren't friendly. This is about their hours...
I will switch to Alps for my PO box the first chance I get.
Just to add, I'm *think* the reason the downtown post office starting locking their doors is because homeless used the place a lot and got into the habit of urinating all over the floors. I remember getting a shock sometimes when I went there to check my box and saw a guy hunched in the corner, and I am sorry for their plight- but the lock up reaction to that situation I don't think is fair to owners of PO boxes.
Again, NOTHING, to do with the friendly employees, I like them as well as you do girl.
It is very inconvenient. I guess they think people do not have to work for a living in Athens. I too would go in after work and see some homeless person in the corner, it was a bit odd. But he wasn't doing any harm and at least I could check my mail box.
Now we got frozen homeless people and no mail checking!
Right, the post office is meant to be used as a homeless shelter, and its occupants should be allowed to urinate all over the floors.
I was being semi sarcastic. D**n internet.
