Speeding up while trying to pass

Why do people fee like they need to block you when you go to pass them? The loop is the worse place for that. On countless occasions, I have noticed drivers peeking up in the rear view as I am coming up on them from the left side of them slow-poking in the right lane with a string of cars, and then "wham" they cut me off so they won't get stuck behind the slow driver in front of them. The problem is they are going the same speed and refuse to go any faster or get back over (until I get in the right lane to pass them of course)! I try real hard not to be one of those butts that gets up in your grill tailgating and you guys that really piss me off are going just below the speed limit so show some freakin' courtesy if you are obviously holding up the fast lane! Don't get speed envy when you see my car coming up on your port and try to cock block my roll. I'm pretty sure you wouldn't do that to a semi (actually, no I'm not so sure) so don't do it to me, the same laws of physics apply.

I've noticed a lot of them are on the phone, from Banks or Madison county. Well not all but seems to be my experience with most.

The 11/16 comment is completely right and so is the OP. Speeding isn't the issue here. The issue is that darting in front of someone about to pass you in the left lane is dangerous. I have also noticed that the people doing this are the ones driving under the speed limit. Yes, 10/31, the left lane is the passing lane so PASS the person and get back over!

The OP wasn't about speeding vs. not speeding. It was about people jumping out in front of other drivers at the last minute because his/her presence reminds them they don't want to be going that slow. It's dangerous and inconsiderate, especially when they pass at 0.3mph faster than the car they're passing, taking forever to do it instead of waiting the half a second for the OP to pass. It's a matter of them not paying attention then doing something dangerous.

Incidentally, car density (it's more difficult to get in an accident by yourself) and lane changes are more dangerous than speeding. Two cars going 85mph in the same lane a few car-lengths apart are not likely to get in an accident. By cutting the OP off then taking a long time to pass (and not getting back in the right lane), the person is increasing car density and lane changes.

Let's face it, people don't do this out of principle but because they're not paying attention and when they are, they're not considerate. Someone going 80+ is another issue entirely.

You shouldn't be able to drive 80+, because the fatality rate in the event of an accident at such high rates of speed are more than triple that of 55 mph and below collission.

speeding and bad driving are not the same thing you idiot. obviously people should be held responsible for what their bad driving causes. but if u can drive 80+ safely why should u not be able to.

Who's problem is it when someone else is injured/dies due to their bad driving?

Athens drivers are terrible. There is no need to go 80+ on the loop or 316.

you call it the "passing lane" but "try to stay closer to the speed limit"??? Who are you to tell other people how fast they should drive? A speed limit doesn't mean anything in relation to the road anyway, the government sets it for the purpose of revenue from speeding tickets. Want evidence? Most people are driving 10-15+, and are still driving safely, aren't losing control of their vehicles nor getting into accidents. Besides, if someone is injured/dies due to their own bad driving then that's their problem

The right lane is for driving, the left lane is for passing. If you've ever driven on the autobahn, you'll see the differences right away. No one drives in the left lane UNLESS they are passing. Period. Drivers have respect for each other over there, and they're going three times as fast as we are!

Its not the "Fast Lane," its the "Passing Lane." Try to stay closer to the speed limit, and you won't encounter these frustrations. It takes a lot of discipline, but in the end it makes driving much more relaxing. : )
