Way retarded name to begin with. I have a been a few times to check it out and some of the posts about it are so true! I really hated the place and never going back! Thanks bad entertainment and snotty too cool for school employees! Did I forget to mention the prices to walk in the door and after paying that, the drink prices?! wtf

Anyone have anything good to say about it? Just curious.

04/18/2010 - 17:15

I'd be more entertained watching grass grow than going to New Earth. The drugged out people have gotten on my last nerve.

04/13/2010 - 11:43

YAWN, someone would take your rant seriously if you didn't own the place or work there. Nice try though.

04/07/2010 - 19:59

There is a difference between giving honest reviews of a venue/bar/its staff/and administration and going around being utterly vulgar and obscene with no real facts to support your claims. "The bartenders are bitchy" and 'WHAT? I need to PAY to see a show and BUY REASONABLY PRICED DRINKS at a venue if I want to get my drink on??" aren't real reviews. The drinks are beyond reasonably priced and they have great deals..including a PRB and whiskey shot for $5 which you can't often beat even in Athens. So comments like the latter may in fact be a CAUSE of the former complaint. Don't be an idiot and you won't be treated like one.
What I have seen here is nothing but angry and absurd "reviews" of a place that has indeed tried to support the local music scene in a time where it needed that support or otherwise could have gone to shreds. Would those of you that are so insulted and angered by acts playing at new earth instead of the theater rather have those acts not play anywhere in Athens? Think about it. The anger and sadness left by the Georgia Theater tragedy has been handled well by most, especially people that have tried to continue the support of local, regional, and national acts in Athens. But, it has also been handled very poorly by those that try to break down the efforts of people that have tried to keep this town filled with music and the opportunities to see it live. It is really sad to see that instead of trying to constructively criticize and thus HELP emerging business and a continuation of the famous music scene in Athens, some choose to attack and hate with unhelpful "reviews" spotted with unnecessary curse words that to be honest, don't really say anything good about your level of intelligence. If closed minded, hateful, and angry people like many of yourselves are never to be seen in that place again, it can only help the vibe. So ROCK ON ATHENS and THANK YOU NEW EARTH MUSIC HALL. I hope that the few things that can be taken away from comments like these will only help you as you establish yourselves and learn from your mistakes as a new venue.

They need to take a breather from the drugs and actually book talent and entertaining entertainment.

It's sad you have to be f**Ked up on some dope to try to enjoy something.

12/06/2009 - 23:35

Funny the one half way decent sounding show they had is Glitch Mob, and that one was originally booked to play at the Theater.

I don't actually know what the show was like, I will never step foot in that place to support the disgusting people behind this place.

I agree this "one love" shit is a complete joke.

New Earth Music Hall is cursed from within, and will not last.

12/06/2009 - 19:38

True that! I've heard a lot of stuff about the people that run the place. Pretty much the scum of Athens. That one love and peace bs is so lame.

12/04/2009 - 13:02

AZ is a jerk and he and his band have ripped off people all over town. Don't believe his peace and love bs. FAIL

11/19/2009 - 12:47

I went to my first show last night at the New Earth Music place. They had someone named Joker and that's exactly what they seemed like, some big joker playing a big joke. The people that were there made me feel like I forgot to take some hallucinogenic drug. Ended up going elsewhere, at least my whole night wasn't a bust.

A heads up, if you order beer you can't go wrong. The drinks are horrible and served up with a super ultra way cool side of b**tchiness.

Peace out

11/12/2009 - 12:52

Correct powers that be. I can finally sleep at night!

11/12/2009 - 02:52

thanks for you comments and criticism. it will be forwarded to the correct powers that be and if they choose, changes will be made. keep it comin' athens.

Nice try. Assuming I'm in a sorority, assuming I'm some kind of street walking slut. You must have me confused with your Mom. Keep on suckin'.

11/08/2009 - 15:42

Yeah right, see ya at dark party sorority slut.

11/08/2009 - 12:28

Az, I'm not going to comment on your spin on how you're "supporting" the Theater, except for the ashes hadn't even cooled before your spot hopped in line- I'm sorry but it's opportunistic and parasitic. You guys can spin that one all day long, but to me the motivation is blatantly clear. Yet, it's not even that that got me down on your club, it was the overall bad experience my friends and I have had there. No need to dredge through the details, they've been clearly stated already.

As a younger girl in town, I"m a bit insulted that you assume the critics here "are not long time Athenians and don't understand..." So, the younger kids here aren't old enough to get it?! Just who do you think you are? If you're saying a person has to be a veteran townie in Athens to appreciate this place, then I think that's bitter, defensive rhetoric. Even though I'm young, I've got the ability to appreciate and understand what a cool town this is. Just because it's a cool town, it doesn't necessarily follow that your place is. Finally, last time I checked Athens is a college town. We college students count for a lot here, we're not ignorant jerks, we do (mostly) have open minds, and the ability to know a good time when we see it. Geez, I wasn't even going to post here, but your post and the one before it just make we want to.... vent. peace out.

11/08/2009 - 01:01

@AZ. Smoke anything recently? What a bunch of BS!

11/06/2009 - 12:15

Your venue sucks and so do your employees! No way around that, you are what you are no matter how you try to justify the crap!

Don't like my opinion along with others? Guess what? Oh f***ing well!

As for the comment above Adrian. Who said anything about doing drugs and paying for entertainment? Get your mind out of the gutter. Sounds like some employee at New Earth. That's the attitude certain of the employees have had even without these recent opinions!

11/05/2009 - 22:30

This is Adrian from New Earth. I appreciate the criticism from all of you. For real. I have never run a club, I've only worked at building the Melting Point with Scott Orvold, who now runs the Georgia Theatre. Oh yeah, and I used to work with Kyle Pilgrim at the Theatre in the late 90's and early 2000's.

I am writing this response to clear up some things.

Just so it is known, we want the New Earth Music Hall to be an integral part of the great Athens Music Scene. (Together with the Forty Watt, Caledonia, the Melting Point, Tasty World, Flicker, Cine, Nowhere Bar, the Rye Bar, etc... and the Georgia Theatre is definitely coming back and we are in full support of it always and have never wished anything but the best for all of the music scene. The Theatre is one of my favorite places on earth and instead of crying when it burned down, I immediately put the word out that the place should be rebuilt and that the Athens Music Community should do everything in its power to bring it back as quickly as possible. New Earth fortunately has the support of the Theatre and the rest of the music community and we hope to help musicians and music in general have another home that is unique and good for Athens just as the aforementioned venues do and have done for this town for years.

I think the people venting here are not long time Athenians and don't understand the beauty and culture of this music town. We are all in this together and when you leave to go to another town, you can blame everyone there for you not enjoying yourself.

I hope that the people of Athens start to aim to get along around here. New Earth is a group of people who have put all we have into a place in hopes of doing something good for Athens and to sustain us in our adult lives.

The staff is learning, we are diving head first into this with no guarantees. There was a void, we have jumped in and we plan on doing it for life with or without the support of individuals who love to hate. And when that void is filled by the best venue in the SE, if not the country, we'll be its little brother that enjoys the shit out of some great shows.

I hope that your life ventures are not so angrily criticized as you try to establish yourself. It doesn't feel good and it seems childish. I hope we put on a good show one day that you enjoy.

peace always

AZ

For these people that have complained: Were the problems: U r paying for entertainment? Can't do drugs in a private establishment? Staff not giving a shit, & allowing u n your friends to be complete idiots? Want something for free? WTF!

11/03/2009 - 15:42

Commended for trying to make money off of what happened to the Theatre? HA, I see me doing that real soon! FYI, they are nothing like the Theatre was!

It is what it is to me. Bad employees and crap entertainment. I guess we can all have our own opinions.

11/03/2009 - 15:36

Who is ripping who to pieces? Most comments I read are stating the obvious. If you suck as a venue to some people, oh well.

11/03/2009 - 15:24

I think a little lee-way is in order, the club has only been open for about four or five months and they have done a pretty decent job of bringing a variety of different music into Athens. All the guys involved have worked hard to try to help fill the gaps left by the theatre burning down, while at the same time still supporting the Theatre as a whole. Rather then rip them to pieces, perhaps they should be commended for their efforts.

I maybe wrong but I think it's just one guy from Dub Adrian, some Asian guy Drew and Mark Bell.

11/01/2009 - 14:26

I could be wrong here, but the name makes perfect sense if those two guys from Dubconcious are in fact actually running the place. Furthermore, just because you were in a band does not qualify you to run a club. I'm in agreement with all the rest of the statements here though, New Earth sucks. Lower your drink prices, learn how to bartend, get some decent people working and bring in some decent shows. Thank god the Theatre is coming back.

11/01/2009 - 10:05

This place can suck my chucklehut. Crappy drinks, pissy staff, and boneheaded entertainment. They charge outrageous prices for what they deliver, and I sure won't be going again so these clowns can ruin another perfectly good night of mine.

To clarify, we HOPE the Ga Theater will be rebuilt. They are in the fundraising stage, and judging by some of the recent comments on the recent ABH articles about the effort, I wouldn't be surprised if some of the jerks associated with New Earth are the ones raising such a ruckus. Honestly, New Earth seemed to pop up just in the nick of time to capitalize on the theater's misfortune. Gross. I like to think people can read between the lines and see what bastards these clowns really are.

What an annoying name. Sounds like a vitamin and supplement company out of Florida. Yuppies trying to come off like some kind of new age hippies is the biggest joke of all. This place has ripped me off and pissed me off for the last time. What a miserable dump.

10/31/2009 - 20:50

Really looking forward to Georgia Theatre. New Earth is suck a joke!

10/31/2009 - 17:15

I am in complete agreement. I have been to New Earth Music Hall about five or six times since school started with an open mind, and each time I have been disappointed. I think the biggest problem is the staff. I could be wrong, but from what I have heard most of the staff was held over from when the club was known as Blur and it feels like they are non too happy about the new direction the club has taken. The drinks are over priced and the pours are way off. Ever had a bourbon/coke? There is supposed to be bourbon in it. Or how about the bathroom nazis who stand guard, watching me piss, to make sure I am not dealing drugs. If this club is to be taken seriously, then they should start by making sure their patrons are happy.

The bright side? The Georgia Theatre is being rebuilt, and once that place re-opens, New Earth won't survive. Good riddance.
