New Earth Music Hall Sucks

I was excited to see that a new venue would be opening to fill the void that the burned out theatre left. I was excited to see that two of the guys from Dubconscious were helping to run the place as well. However, after numerous visits to the club, I can say with confidence I will not be returning. The final straw was a party our fraternity hosted at the venue - it was a disaster. I am 22 years old and my ID was taken and I was marked underage by the door people. This was after they had viewed my ID for what seemed like minutes. My girlfriend was also marked underage. Upon explaining that we were both in fact of age to drink, we were still denied. This happened AFTER several previous ventures to the club also ended poorly. The staff at New Earth Music Hall clearly does not give a shit about their patrons. They treated the entertainment we had hired for our party with disdain, and most of my brothers and their dates chose to hand out elsewhere.

Sorry New Earth, I have given you a fair shot, but it seems like you are destined to fail. Unless you drop the attitude, hire new staff, and start giving a shit about the people that support your establishment, your tenure in Athens will be short lived.

Is this the new Grit?

It's pretty much the new drug place of Athens. Even the owner is open about his mj use (tacky). Glad he can get funding from his hippie friends through his venue for his habits.

A bunch of idiots run this place.

02/12/2010 - 12:18

I hate this place. Never going back.

11/10/2009 - 15:29

Heard that you can buy marijuana there.

11/08/2009 - 14:24

Hatred? So opinions about an establishment is hatred? Keep quiet everyone! Your NOT allowed to have opinions unless you are kissing the booty!

I come in peace, always.

How many chances does a place need? I have been numerous times. I'm gonna be spending my money at other bars downtown. I will not have to deal with the attitude and bad entertainment. Overall it sounds like a win win to go elsewhere.

those of you who are narrow minded should realize that a new venue needs some time to figure out how to do things, NEMH is in it for the right reasons, (supporting local bands/dj's/organizations, bringing out of town acts into athens etc etc) Also, that prick of a head security guy Boston got fired and a new crew is in place including a few of the Georgia Theatre employees. Give it another chance before some self proclaimed Athens venue critic's words ruin the fun for everyone. Support locally owned clubs and give the new ones feedback, not hatred...

What a crap venue. And that goes double for the douchebag bartender. Winning the award for the most ill-conceived "live music" venue in town. Athens deserves better.

Definition of LAME = New Earth Music Hall

10/23/2009 - 15:01

New Earth still sucks! I cannot believe this douche of a place is still open!

10/01/2009 - 18:17

NEMH is in it for all the wrong reasons, and it shows.

10/01/2009 - 17:11

I agree, New Earth Music Hall sucks. Horrible employees! Lousy entertainment!

I went by there this past Monday to watch their comedy show and - after reading this post - I was prepared for the worst. However, it wasn't that bad...at least on the night I was there. So, any other experiences other than negative or was my happy one a fluke? By the way, the comedians rocked.

Agreed. New Earth (stupid name too.) will cave when the theatre comes back. I've been by there twice since it opened and the staff is horrible. I can't even comment on the music. Music Hall this ain't.

The Grit's been around for more than 20 years (in spite of staffing some upity jerks). So, no, this ain't the new Grit. I'd never even heard of the place, but I looked it up and it looks pretty lame. Definitely gone when the Theatre is back.
